While in Indianapolis for the Journalism Education Association Convention, student editors from The Scroll (MS newspaper) and The Sojourner (HS yearbook) took a special field trip to the Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center, where they met Indianapolis Colts quarterback (and ASL alumnus) Andrew Luck ’08!

This remarkable, VIP experience was made possible by Luck’s agent and fellow alum, Will Wilson ’85, as well as the students’ intrepid chaperones, Rhiannon West and Colin Bridgewater.

Upon arrival at the NFL team’s practice facility, the group took a guided tour with Matt Conti, the Colts’ Assistant Director of Communications.

In addition to the press conference room, students explored the media center, locker room and practice fields, fielding questions to numerous broadcasters and behind-the-scenes crew along the way. “It gave us a real glimpse into the world of sports journalism,” gushed Mackensie ’21. “Our time there was truly enriching.”

Most enriching of all was the face time ASLers had with Andrew, who joined them in the press room for some informal conversation and numerous photo-ops. Lucky them! And lucky for ASL to have such great alumni connections all over the world.
